It is with great pleasure that the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce announces the selection of Jane Butterfield as its 2005 ATHENA Award recipient. Since 1999, she has been president and chief financial officer for Community Bank of San Joaquin, and was recently promoted to president and chief executive officer. She is being recognized for her professional accomplishments, community service and her role in helping other women in the community attain success. This prestigious award honors outstanding professional women who encourage an environment where providing assistance, inspiration and mentoring to women is uniquely valued.

Jane was educated at Santa Clara University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Since that time, Jane has distinguished herself as a top local executive with proven capabilities in organizing, opening and operating a successful bank business. She is one of the very few female bank CEOs in the state of California. In 1984, Jane, a certified public accountant, entered banking as controller for the former Stockton Savings Bank. She was named chief financial officer three years later. After the sale of Stockton Savings, Jane joined forces with other far-sighted local business leaders to found Community Bank of San Joaquin. Today, the bank reports assets of more than $120 million.

Jane serves as chairperson of the board of directors of Goodwill Industries of San Joaquin Valley, one of the area’s largest nonprofit organizations. She also serves as a committed board member for the Children’s Home Foundation, Mary Graham Children’s Shelter Foundation, California State University - Stanislaus Foundation, The Haggin Museum and the Yosemite Club. Jane is an active member of the Rotary Club of Stockton, and has served on the boards of United Way of San Joaquin, the Community Center for the Blind and the American Cancer Society.

The ATHENA Award will be presented to Jane at the annual ATHENA Luncheon on November 17, 11:30 AM, at Brookside Country Club.
