A Program of the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce

Join the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce as we bring new businesses to our community and work to keep existing San Joaquin County businesses profitable!

The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce recognizes that proper economic growth is the sum total of five distinct and separate components: job creation, business retention & expansion, business advocacy, education and regional collaboration. Each of these components, individually and collectively, creates additional job opportunities for the unemployed and under employed, increases sales taxes and generates additional tax revenues, thus increasing the quality of life for every resident. Further, each component is self-generating and not a product of chance occurrence, but rather something that must be sought out, cultivated and nurtured to achieve long-term growth success in the highly competitive economic marketplace.

A successful business retention and expansion program identifies, on an individual basis, problems affecting local business operations. It conveys to the business community that positive action will be taken to assist them. It is important to demonstrate a commitment to business health by selecting solutions that can be implemented immediately. A business retention and expansion program can enable the Chamber to encourage a positive business climate for new and existing businesses.

However, there is an unfortunate trend that has developed in Stockton and San Joaquin County in respect to job loss, unemployment and company closings. The Chamber, as the largest business organization in the County, is concerned that if companies continue to close or downsize, it will adversely affect the retail and commercial sectors of our economy, thus reducing revenue to the city government. Subsequently the quality of life is diminished, so taxes are increased to make up for the shortfall and then companies leave.

Hence the trend continues...
