SCAp Provides Great Resource For

HR Professionals

APRIL 2007 -- The Stockton Chamber Apprenticeship Program (SCAP) needs your help, your expertise, and most importantly, your support. We would like to invite all human resource professionals and business owners to come and sit in on the Oral Board Panel interviews conducted every Tuesday from 9:00 am – 11:00 am in the Conference Room at The Stockton Chamber of Commerce. Our goal is to gather various opinions from active employers on the resumes submitted by the many job seekers looking to fill employment opportunities offered by SCAP.

We cannot express how important your input is! The more direct input we get from competitive businesses, the more we may assure the employer that the applicant and the skills are a match and a good fit for what they are specifically looking for.

Employers have as many different needs as they do similarities. This opportunity also allows you to hand-pick your employees.

Resumes are of the highest importance, along with the applicant, when utilizing the Stockton Chamber Apprenticeship Program. Employers require a resume before anything else. Your input and evaluations will allow us to relate information back to the case managers and their clients as to what is actually needed on a resume. Also, the ability to provide a better understanding to what the substance of a good resume can insure.

It is no wonder why some companies are implementing other pre-screening technologies that aid in selecting a potential “successful” candidate. These systems are meant to act as a time-management tool and to insure the right candidate has been chosen. However, employees still quit, costs are wasted, and resources are again used to find more employees.

SCAP can help greatly and is a compliment to any decision support system utilized by your company. We are able to eliminate all employer costs during the two-week, non-paid apprenticeship and have the ability to pull potential employees from an immediate work-ready labor pool.

So please, I strongly urge you to consider this option the next time you’re looking to hire or you would like to volunteer and sit on the Oral Board Panel. Your opinions, expertise, and time are very valuable assets to the Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to being able to share that with the rest of the business community.
