Career Jam, Jams Once Again

June 2007 -- A huge ‘THANK YOU!’ to Heald College for hosting Career Jam 2007 on their campus. Without the assistance of Dr. Robert Nodolf, Campus Director, Irene Camy and Katherine Valencia of Career Services and the Heald College staff, the event would not have been as successful as it has grown to be. Although the event was held on their campus, Heald College has no problem with sharing the spotlight with other colleges and local businesses.

On Friday, April 27, 2007, students from local high schools visited over 20 exhibitors at Heald College’s Stockton campus. The hallways of the campus were packed with local businesses and educational institutions, and students visiting their booths.

On the second floor, students attended break-out sessions regarding financial literacy, how to land and keep a job, and careers and personalities. All of the feedback we received so far from both students and exhibitors alike has been extremely positive and encouraging for future events. With each passing year, we’d like this event to grow, getting bigger and better than the last.

Weber Institute Senior Project Panelists Needed!

Seniors at Weber Institute have a graduation requirement that they must work on an on-going project while they are in school, and present it to a panel before they may graduate. If you are available to volunteer a few hours of your time to sit on a panel for these presentations, the presentations will be held on Wednesday, June 13, starting at 12:30pm and ending no later than 3:30 pm.

The students work so hard on these projects that they want to show it off. Their presentations give them the opportunity to do so, as well as to show off what Weber Institute students can accomplish. Staff and faculty help these students work on their projects and presentations, therefore when outside agencies volunteer time, it shows the students that their work matters to the community. It’s worth more than a grade to these students.

If you are available and would like to volunteer for the panel or any other BEA events, please contact Heather Asker at (209) 547-2770 or hasker@stocktonchamber.org.
