SCAP
Program a Big Success
NOVEMBER
2007 - The Stockton Chamber Apprenticeship Program is proud to celebrate
another newsworthly accomplishment for one of its
CalWORK’s clients.
Dwayne
Beach is currently employed with TANKERWASH USA, a complete truck tank
wash facility, located in Stockton. He began his two week, “non-paid
apprenticeship” on July 6, 2007, and successfully completed it on July
19. On July 20th,
Dwayne officially became a permanent employee with the company.
His
goal to get back out into the work force had been a top priority for
awhile. However, Dwayne
credits his young son for being the major force that gave him the drive
and determination to secure employment.
“My
son is the reason I get up every day,” he said. “He keeps me
going.”
And
that he does! Dwayne, a single parent, also tends to his son’s school
schedule, helping with homework, and just hanging-out together to keep
“quality time” available for both of them.
This
has not been an easy task for Dwayne says Michael Vilarino, General
Manager for TANKERWASH USA, and Dwayne’s boss.
“He
is the prime example of a second chance success story,” Vilarino said.
“He has taken full advantage of the opportunity provided to him.
Dwayne realizes that hard work and responsibility translate into a more
stable life for him and his son. His willingness to learn and take on
any task has impressed me almost as much as his flawless attendance
record with our company. Despite
his limited transportation options, Dwayne has made his way to work
everyday. Whether by train, from his previous home in Escalon, or by
foot from his home in Stockton, I can count on him to be here on time
and ready to go to work!”
Beach
is grateful for the chance that the SCAP program has given him.
“I
would like to thank Kim Elliott from the SCAP program for all the time
and effort she put into finding me the right job,” he said. “I could
not have done it without her support.
I also want to thank Michael, my boss for giving me a chance and
believing in me. I love it here! But especially to my son who is my
motivation!”
