A
Message from Chamber CEO Douglass Wilhoit:
Record editorial more reflective of
City than headline
FEBRUARY
2008 - Since 1999 in each and every column I have invited all of
you to get out and enjoy all the GOOD things happening in Stockton. Many
of you have and I thank you!
In
the January 10, 2008 Record, the headline for the story of the City
commissioned survey was by far the most unfair, over the top, community
slamming, outright lie, ugly, disparaging, stupid, uncalled for,
injurious, deceitful, ignorant, mean spirited and most of all
unprofessional headlines that I and we have seen in a long time. Shame
on the headline writer.
I
was going to respond to the entire issue in my column but I was so very
pleased to see The Record editorial the morning of January 17, 2008.
The
editorial stated all that I had planned to write and what we at the
Chamber and many, many citizens experience here in Stockton which totals
more than the 293 respondents to the survey.
Keep
in mind that the pie chart, in regards to the quality of life question,
in the
1-10-08
article showed 80 percent of the respondents (293) answered fair to
excellent with only 20 percent saying poor.
How
did the headline writer come up with Drearytown, USA?
That
person should be ashamed and it’s too bad we may never know who it
was! With the permission of The Record I am reprinting their Jan 17
editorial. I have replaced the center section in which the Editorial
asked you to do 10 things with information on where you can find news
and happenings in Stockton. You will find the Record’s list on Page 9
of the Port O Call which you can download from out home page..
I
invite you and strongly encourage you to go to www.visitstockton.org
daily to find out about all the great things to do here in Stockton
and the region.
